    Birthday presents, by age

    One big present for the garden, set out by the age of the child whose birthday it is. Go-karts from €299 follow BERG's age guides. Trampolines start at the sixth birthday, because BERG's manual does not recommend its garden models for children under 6.

    Models in stock are delivered within 48 hours. Anything else is typically 7 to 10 days, so order with a couple of weeks in hand and leave time to put it together.

    Ages 3 to 5: Buddy go-karts

    BERG's guide for the Buddy is 3 to 8 years, and it is the only frame we sell that is rated from a third birthday. A swing on a PlayBase is the other idea for this age. Both are on the ages 3 to 5 page.

    Ages 6 to 12: Rally and XL go-karts

    The frames whose BERG guides run to twelve or beyond: Rally 4 to 12 years and XL 5 years to adult. A six to eight year old is inside the Buddy guide as well. See the full choice for ages 6 to 8 and ages 9 to 12.

    From the sixth birthday: round trampolines on legs, 9ft to 12.5ft

    A short list by a rule of ours: round, on legs, with a safety net, from 9ft (270cm) to 12.5ft (380cm). Nothing is dug, so there is no groundwork between the delivery and the birthday. These are our suggestions, not BERG age ratings. For other shapes and sizes see all trampolines.

    Teen birthdays: the XL go-kart and PlayBase fitness accessories

    BERG's guide for the XL kart is 5 years to adult. The fitness accessories are marked by BERG for ages 14 and over and need a PlayBase frame to fix to. There is more on the teens and adults page.

    Any age from 3: PlayBase climbing frames

    A frame is the present that later birthdays can add to. Swings, rings, a climbing wall or a basketball hoop hang from it and can be changed as the child grows.

    Birthday budget

    Lead times for a birthday

    A birthday has a fixed date, so work back from it. There are three things to allow for.

    • Delivery. Within 48 hours for a model in stock. Typically 7 to 10 days otherwise. We confirm the date when you order.
    • Being at home. Someone has to sign. A trampoline or PlayBase comes on a pallet to the kerbside, and you bring the boxes in.
    • Building. Everything arrives boxed. We supply and deliver; you assemble from BERG's manual. We do not quote a time for that, so give yourself more than you think you need.

    If there is less than a fortnight to go, ring us before you order and we will tell you what is in stock. Our go-karts are held in our own Irish warehouse and delivered within 48 hours.

    Picking by age

    The sections above give a short list for each age. The age pages go further: 3 to 5, 6 to 8, 9 to 12 and teens and adults. Kart ages are BERG's guides. Trampoline suggestions are ours, because BERG gives no age bands beyond its advice on children under 6.

    Will the trampoline fit

    Measure before the present is bought, not after. Each trampoline tile shows the clear ground it needs, and the size guide shows how to measure.

    Questions people ask

    How far ahead of a birthday should I order?+

    If the model is in stock it is delivered within 48 hours. If it is not, delivery is typically 7 to 10 days and we confirm the date when you order. Two weeks ahead covers both cases and leaves time to put it together. Ring us if the date is tight.

    What go-kart for a fourth or fifth birthday?+

    BERG's guides overlap here. The Buddy is 3 to 8 years, the Rally 4 to 12 years and the XL 5 years to adult. At four, the Buddy and Rally guides both apply; at five, all three do. If your child is tall or small for their age, tell us their height.

    Is a trampoline a good present for a fifth birthday?+

    BERG's manual does not recommend its garden trampolines for children under 6, so we suggest waiting a year. For a fifth birthday we point to a go-kart or a PlayBase with a swing.

    Can it be set up in secret for the morning of the birthday?+

    That depends on you. It arrives boxed and we do not put it together, so the building is done by you from BERG's manual. Read the manual when the boxes come and judge the time from that.

    Can several children use the trampoline at the party?+

    One at a time. BERG's manual allows a single user on the trampoline, with an adult supervising, because of the risk of a collision. Plan for turns.

    What is a smaller present for a child who has a PlayBase?+

    An accessory. Swings, a trapeze, gym rings and the rest clip to the frame the child already has. The gift ideas page lists them all by price.

    What if the present does not suit?+

    You can return it within 14 days of delivery. For a change of mind you pay the return delivery; for anything faulty, damaged or wrong, we do.
