BERG trampoline size guide: what fits your garden
A trampoline is sold by the size of its frame. A garden has to be judged by something bigger: the frame plus the empty ground BERG wants around it. This guide shows how to measure for that, and then lists what each of our 16 sizes needs, from the 6.5ft (200cm) to the 17 x 11.5ft (520cm).
Every size is given in feet and centimetres, and clear ground in metres with feet beside it. Each row links to the garden page where that size sits.
How to measure
- Stand where it would go. You are measuring one level patch. The rest of the lawn does not count.
- Find the nearest thing in each direction. Fence, hedge, wall, shed, tree trunk, washing line, the house. Those mark the edges of your clear ground.
- Measure the longest clear run, then the run across it. Note both in metres.
- Subtract 4 m from each. That is 2 m for either side. The two numbers left are the longest and widest trampoline the patch takes.
- Look straight up. Branches, wires and eaves all count against the overhead figure.
An example. Clear ground of 8.5 m by 6.5 m leaves 4.5 m by 2.5 m once 4 m comes off each. A round trampoline has to fit the smaller number, so the largest is the 6.5ft (200cm), from €339. A rectangle can use both, so the 8 x 13ft (410 x 250cm) fits, from €1,359.
BERG's two numbers: 2 m around and 7 m above
Both come from BERG's manual. It asks for a minimum of 2 m (about 7 ft) between the trampoline and trees, fences and any other obstacle, and it requires 7 m (about 23 ft) of clear height measured from the ground.
They apply to every BERG trampoline we sell, on legs or in the lawn, with a net or without. We do not sell a size on the basis of a tighter gap, and the garden pages on this site are built on the same sum.
Clear ground for every size and shape
"Clear ground" is the frame plus 2 m on each side, and it should all be level. "Longest side" is the figure that decides the garden band. The price is the lowest for that size, and it opens that trampoline's page.

Where a width says "about", we hold only the length in centimetres and have worked the width out from BERG's size in feet. Use it as a guide.
Where only a length is shown, we do not hold the width in centimetres. Ask us for it, then add 4 m.
"Versions" counts the ranges, types and net options sold at that size. The garden bands: compact gardens, up to 7 m of clear ground (11 trampolines); medium gardens, 7 to 8 m of clear ground (32 trampolines); large gardens, more than 8 m of clear ground (46 trampolines).
Shape changes the answer
A round trampoline needs the same run both ways, so the shorter side of your clear ground sets its size. An oval (BERG's Grand) or a rectangle (BERG's Ultim) is narrower than it is long and can use a strip.
Take two trampolines of the same length. The round 11ft (330cm) needs 7.3 m x 7.3 m. The rectangular 7 x 11ft (330 x 220cm) needs 7.3 m x 6.2 m. The run along the garden is identical. The run across it is shorter.
If nothing fits
- Drop a size. The round sizes step 6.5ft, 9ft, 11ft, 12.5ft, 14ft, and every step down hands back at least 50 cm in both directions.
- Try the other shapes against your two numbers before giving up on a round one.
- Check the ground is level. Only level ground counts, and levelling is a job for a landscaper or builder, which we do not advise on.
- Keep the trampoline on grass. Our own advice is that ground anchors hold in soil and do not hold in paving, concrete or gravel.
- Where there is no lawn to spare, the PlayBase Wall fixes to a load-bearing brick or block wall and is 1.2m wide.
- Or hand it to us: a free garden consultation from your photos, or ring 01 960 1641, Monday to Saturday, 9am to 6pm.
With the size settled, the buying guide takes the remaining decisions in order.
Questions people ask
What size trampoline fits my garden?+
Measure the clear, level ground, then take 4 m (about 13 ft) off the length and off the width. What is left is the largest trampoline that fits with BERG's 2 m of clear space on every side. The table on this page gives the answer for every size we sell.
How much room do the round sizes need?+
6.5ft (200cm): 6 m x 6 m. 9ft (270cm): 6.7 m x 6.7 m. 11ft (330cm): 7.3 m x 7.3 m. 12.5ft (380cm): 7.8 m x 7.8 m. 14ft (430cm): 8.3 m x 8.3 m. Each figure is the trampoline plus 2 m on every side.
Is the 2 m measured from the frame or the net?+
BERG's manual asks for at least 2 metres between the trampoline and trees, fences and other obstacles. We measure it from the outside of the trampoline, which is how the figures on this site are worked out. If your garden only works by shaving that, choose the next size down.
Why 7 m overhead?+
BERG's manual requires 7 m (about 23 ft) of clear height, measured from the ground. In practice that rules out a spot under a tree, a cable or the overhang of a roof.
Does a trampoline in the lawn need a smaller space?+
No. BERG's clearances are the same for a trampoline on legs, an InGround and a FlatGround. One set into the lawn looks smaller from the house. The clear ground it needs is unchanged.
What counts as a small garden on this site?+
One where the longest side of clear, level ground is up to 7 m. Medium gardens are 7 to 8 m and large gardens are more than 8 m. The bands are ours, set by what each trampoline needs. We make no claim about what size gardens usually are.
Can you check my measurements?+
Yes. Send photos and the length and width of the level ground through the free garden consultation. We check them against BERG's manual and reply with the sizes that fit.
