BERG trampoline buying guide: start with the garden

We list 89 BERG trampolines, from €339 to €4,999. Nobody wants to read 89 product pages, so this guide puts five decisions in the order that shrinks the list fastest: the garden, the child, on legs or in the lawn, the budget, and last of all BERG's range.

Each step links to a page that shows only the trampolines that pass it.

    1. Measure the garden

A trampoline needs far more ground than its own size. BERG's manual asks for 2 m clear on every side and 7 m clear overhead, so add 4 m to the length and to the width. We sort every model into one of three bands by the longest side of clear, level ground it needs.

    Compact gardens

Up to 7 m of clear ground

    11 trampolines, 200 to 280 cm long, from €339.

    Shop compact gardens

    Medium gardens

    7 to 8 m of clear ground

    32 trampolines, 330 to 380 cm long, from €569.

    Shop medium gardens

    Large gardens

More than 8 m of clear ground

    46 trampolines, 410 to 520 cm long, from €709.

    Shop large gardens

How to take the measurement, and the clear ground for every size in feet and metres, is in the size guide.

    2. Think about who will be on it

BERG publishes two age statements for its garden trampolines and no more. The manual says they are not suitable for children under 36 months, and it does not recommend them for children under 6. So our ages 3 to 5 page shows go-karts and PlayBase swings, and a first trampoline starts at six.

From six up, BERG's rule is one user at a time on every size, so the number of children does not set the size. Weight matters more. BERG's manuals give a maximum user weight for some models, and where we have read it we show it.

By age: ages 3 to 5, ages 6 to 8, ages 9 to 12, teens and adults. The trampolines on those pages are our suggestions, each picked by a rule stated on the page. They are not BERG age ratings.

    3. On legs, or in the lawn

    On legs

    26 models, €449 to €4,999

Stands on the grass and comes with a safety net. You put it together from BERG's manual, it can move house with you, and it should be anchored.

    Above-ground trampolines

    In the lawn

    63 models, €339 to €4,999

An InGround shows a low raised edge. A FlatGround finishes level with the grass. Both need groundwork by an installer, landscaper or builder, who quotes you directly.

    In-ground and FlatGround trampolines

The two are weighed up in in-ground or above ground, and who does the groundwork has a page of its own.

    4. Set the budget

The trampoline price is the delivered price. For one in the lawn, keep back money for the groundwork, which we do not quote.

    €500 to €1,0002814
    €1,000 to €2,0004127
    Over €2,000168

Each budget page also shows the go-karts, PlayBase frames and accessories in that band.

    5. Only now, the range

BERG builds the same shapes and sizes in more than one range: Favorit, Champion, Elite and, at the largest sizes, Pro Bouncer. The range sets the springs, the jumping mat, the protective edge and the warranty, and it moves the price at any given size. Leave it until you have a size and a type, then read Favorit vs Champion vs Elite, which shows the price step between them at the same size.

    Worked examples

Five situations, each with the rule we used to pull models from the catalogue. They are places to start, and each still has to pass your own tape measure.

A compact garden and a child of six or seven

Our rule: On legs, round, safety net included, in the compact garden band: the smallest, and the largest at its lowest price.

Nothing is dug and the net is in the price. The larger of the two gives a growing child more mat.

A medium garden, children at primary school

Our rule: On legs, round, safety net included, in the medium garden band: the lowest price at each of the two sizes.

The two round sizes that fit in 7 to 8 m of clear ground.

Teenagers, or adults who will use it too

Our rule: Models where BERG's manual gives a maximum user weight of 100 kg or more: the lowest price on legs, the lowest price in the lawn, and the lowest-priced Pro Bouncer.

BERG's manuals give 100 kg or more for 15 of our models, so those are the ones we can point to with a figure. For any other model, ask us and we will check BERG's manual with you.

You would sooner look at the garden than the trampoline

Our rule: The lowest-priced round FlatGround, and the lowest-priced round InGround of the same size without a net.

Both sit in the lawn, so an installer, landscaper or builder does the groundwork and quotes you directly. Get that quote before you order.

    Questions people ask

What should I decide first when buying a trampoline?+

The garden. Measure the clear, level ground you have, take 4 m off the length and the width for BERG's clearance, and you know the largest trampoline that fits. That one sum sets the upper limit before anything else is decided.

From what age can a child use a BERG trampoline?+

BERG's manual says its garden trampolines are not suitable for children under 36 months, and it does not recommend them for children under 6. BERG gives no other age bands. The starting points on our age pages are our own suggestions, chosen by a rule we print on each page.

How much should I budget for a BERG trampoline in Ireland?+

On legs with a safety net, €449 to €4,999. Set into the lawn, €339 to €4,999, with the groundwork quoted separately by whoever does it. Delivery is free on every trampoline, because each one is over the €300 threshold.

Should I buy a bigger trampoline so two children can share?+

No. BERG's rule is one user at a time on every size, with an adult supervising. A bigger mat gives a single jumper more room. Buy the size your clear ground allows.

    Round, oval or rectangular?+

Let the ground decide. A round trampoline needs the same clear run in both directions. An oval or a rectangle suits ground that is longer one way. BERG calls its ovals Grand and its rectangles Ultim.

    Do I need a safety net?+

Every above-ground trampoline we sell includes one. In-ground models are sold with a net and without, and round FlatGround models come without. BERG's manual asks that the net entrance is fully closed before anyone jumps.

Will you pick one for me?+

Yes. Send photos of the garden and rough measurements through the free garden consultation, tell us the ages of the children, and we will come back with a size, a shape and the delivered price.

Shall we shortlist it for you?

Send two or three photos of the garden, the size of the level ground and the children's ages. We will reply with the trampolines that fit and what each costs delivered. Free, with no obligation.
